Sustainable finance

Sustainable finance refers to the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), predominantly in the agricultural and food sectors, or large farmers' cooperatives. Typically, these are producing and manufacturing organisations.

We call this sustainable finance because the companies are either certified under an organic or sustainable scheme, or we recognise that the financing facility will help the company to develop into a sustainable business.

There are many projects and companies in Africa, Asia and Latin America which need funding to pre-finance farmers, for example, or require funding for investments in infrastructure or warehousing. These projects often lack access to financing due to risks including crop instability, weather uncertainties and price volatility.

Peterson supports these companies by making their proposition fundable and we introduce them to potential financers.
